What an amazing event.
As we approached the fiesta grounds the streets were packed with cars and people,
vendors everywhere, and a majestic atmosphere of people just enjoying their
night. In the middle of the fiesta
grounds was a giant bullring surrounded by bleachers stands, and that in
turn was surrounded by vendor provided hot food, beverages, dancing and much more.
Once we got settled in and had something to eat we move
forward to the bleachers and secured some seats with great views of the
bullfighting arena. Now for those animal
lovers, don't mistake the fiesta rodeo for a traditional bullfight. Once again is opened the bull rider attempts
to stay on the bull as long as he can while the bull tries to throw off just as
in your traditional American rodeos. The
difference here is once the bull riders thrown off she is very out of the ring
but instead of just a few clowns trying to lure the bull away the entire
audience is welcome to participate in trying to distract the bull and get them
to chase them from one direction to the other.
Most of the time the bull just looks frazzled or tired and making this mundane experience a perfect time for chatting with your friends waiting for
the next rodeo to begin. Conversations pertaining to future costa rica investments and eco adventures we participated in. However once in
a while a spectator gets close enough to draw the bull's attention and is
chased around the arena and occasionally thrown up in the air or over the
railings that are protecting the people in the bleachers.
Once the rodeo portion of the fiesta had completed we
proceeded to move down to the general area where the vendors were cooking up
fresh meals for all to enjoy. Then I
proceeded to continue with beverages dancing and karaoke that everybody
participated in until 11 p.m.
All in all this is a wondrous experience and
I encourage anyone who visits Costa
Rica to go check out the fiesta rodeo
anywhere in the country.
